writing tip: ideas…

journals

Always carry a note-book. And I mean always. The short-term memory only retains information for three minutes; unless it is committed to paper you can lose an idea for ever.

Inky:  It’s the simplest most fundamental tip, but I was guilty of not following the ‘always.’ I could weep at the number of times I’ve been somewhere, doing something when I saw, heard, tasted, smelled something and an idea for a story, character, dialogue exploded in my brain, played out in this brilliant scenario only to find I had nothing on which to write it down.  Promising myself I’d remember?   Well, the goldfish is not on the only creation with a three second memory.

Carry a notebook with you, always.  It is excellent advice.  Just remember the pen as well.
